SOMALILAND FISHERY LAW
10/11/2018: UPDATE - A new Somaliland Fishery Law Law No. 84/2018 has been promulgated and came into force on 3 November 2019. A copy of the gazetted law is available here: Xeerka Kaluumaysiga Lr. 84/2016. There is also here a copy of the Law with added arrangements of the articles (also in Somali) Xeerka Kaluumaysiga 2018 SLLaw. There is no English language version of the Law yet, but we set out the arrangements of the articles of the law in both Somali and English Tusmada Xeerka Kaluumaysiga. The Law refers to the UNCLOS based maritime seas of the Republic of Somaliland - the territorial sea, the contiguous zone and the exclusive economic zone, the latter of which is all in the Gulf of Aden opposite Yemen. The maritime boundary to to the west is that shared with the Republic of Djibouti and to the east is that shared with Somalia.

Somalia’s current (or pre 1991) fishing laws do not apply to the Republic of Somaliland.
